Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shankar is a British-American sitar player and music artist. She won the British House of Commons' Shield, which is the youngest and the first female to receive it. In addition to receiving nine Grammy nominations She was also the first Indian-born musician to perform during the ceremony live. Anoushka is the rising star in Indian sitar. She is the student and sister of Ravi Shankar. Born in 1982, she was raised in London. Her early years were spent in London and New Delhi. In the age of thirteen, she gave her first show at New Delhi. Later, in Encinitas CA she attended high school. She graduated with distinction in the year 1999. Although she is still very young, Anouskha is an accomplished performer and recording. Her father was with her in many performances for some time. Her debut solo album, Anourag, was released in 1998. Her Grammy-nominated Live At Carnegie Hall album was released in 2002. The stage is a very important aspect of her life. She's performed at many important venues across the globe. Anoushka Shankar's career is not restricted to just performing in music. Bapi the love of My Live, a biographical picture written in tribute to her father Ravi Shankar was published in 2002. Also, she has acted. In the 2003 film Dance Like a Man, in which she played an Bharat natyam dancing young girl. Anoushka Shankar is an emerging superstar and her fame will keep on growing. Anoushka was a frequent traveler and spent lots of traveling between London and Delhi in her early years. Then, she relocated to California for high school. She began learning music when she was nine years old and performed on the sitar for the 75th anniversary of the birth of her father in Delhi four years later. Anoushka was able to gain a variety of valuable experiences by accompanying her dad on his world tour. It included performances at Carnegie Hall and at Peter Gabriel's WOMAD festival and performing alongside George Harrison. As a tribute to her status as an outstanding musician in the field of Asian Arts, she was awarded the House of Commons Shield by British parliament.
